Do you recall Mila and her two adorable boys, Sonny and Sal? This is what happened to the gang’s final member, and it’s well worth your time. Meet Giorgio, a young wild tabby that underwent a remarkable transformation to become the happiest cat on the planet.
Will Zweigart, the founder of the Flatbush Cats and his volunteers discovered Giorgio just weeks after rescuing Sonny and Sal, but it was probably enough time to decide his fate. Giorgio had already lost hope of associating with people and they were not sure if they could provide him with a better life than his brothers.
“It’s difficult to watch kittens who are only a few months old knowing that we may have arrived too late,” Will added. “Trapping is the simple part; the hard part is making the decision.”
They couldn’t do much to assist Giorgio since they were a tiny organization with little means and a lot of unfixed cats in other colonies to look after, and that knowledge hurt their hearts somehow.
“We didn’t have many fosters because this was our first year volunteering, and we didn’t have any more space to take in more cats, especially older kittens who would require hours of socializing time every day,” he said. “It bothered me even though we were trying our best. I was in such a bad mood, wishing I could have seen him a few weeks earlier.”
They neutered Giorgio and returned him outside with other wild cats in their TNR programme once he was neutered. They were still unclear if they were doing the right thing, so they told the tiny cat that they would keep an eye on him.
Will returned to Giorgio’s colony every day to feed the cat, and much to the relief of the rescuers, Giorgio grew considerably friendlier after each of his visits. Will kidnapped Giorgio and took him home as soon as he saw he had promise.
Thankfully, Giorgio was able to quickly adjust to his new indoor existence. He was ready to return to his foster family not long after that.
Giorgio turned out to be a vivacious cat that adored humans and was also quite kind with other cats. The lucky cat was subsequently adopted by his foster parents, and he also acquired a younger feline brother named Peanut, who was also a rescue kitty. Since then, they’ve been purrfect playmates who look after one other.
Will, of course, was the pleased with the outcome.
“It’s incredible to consider how far Giorgio has come and what a wonderful life he now has with his own loving family,” he added.
