Meet Hades. More than his name may insinuate, Hades is no dog out of hell and only has one head, not three. He has a story that will hopefully show people that every dog breed has a way to handle them, and they all deserve love. Hades shows us that it’s the inside that counts, not the outside.
Hades lives in Mexico with his owner, Juan José P. Flores. There, there was a stray cat who used to hang out. Flores kept food out frequently to make sure she never went hungry despite the fact that he was never able to approach her.
Hades took notice of that act of compassion and quickly reciprocated it with a loving deed of his own.
The other day, Flores was at home when he heard knocking at the back door, where Hades likes to hang out. Flores mistakenly believed it to be a human, but it was actually his dog. As it turned out, Hades had some crucial information to impart.
Flores went outside to check and found this: Hades proudly announcing that he has invited a certain someone to stay in his doghouse.
That someone was the bashful stray cat. As it turns out, she was pregnant and in need of a safe place to deliver her babies. Hades knew just the right spot.
Hades’ kindness toward the cat didn’t end there. Hades kept near to her in that delicate time as she went into childbirth.
“He dragged a blanket over to the entrance of his house and settled outside the door,” Flores said. “She felt protected by him.”
Under the dog’s tender watch, the cat gave birth to two beautiful kittens. Cozy in the home she was offered, the new mother cat couldn’t have been happier with her babies. Nor could Hades, having been there to welcome them.
The new mother and her children have been relocated inside the main home so that Flores and Hades can jointly keep a closer check on them.
It’s there that a beautiful friendship has begun to blossom between Hades and the cat, now named Nicol. Flores said they’ve been spending much of their time together, when Mom isn’t busy attending to her kittens. Hades, it seems, rests easy knowing that they’re nearby and safe.
The kittens will be adopted by new family when the time is appropriate, but Nicol will always have a home with Flores and Hades. Flores hopes that Hades’ actions will cause a change of thinking about his breed, and perhaps even inspire others by the kindness in his heart.
