Allow me to introduce you to Olivia, a brave little soul who captured the hearts of many. On the afternoon of October 7, 2022, Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary received a distressing report about a dog lying in a creek, frail and emaciated.
Given the proximity of the shelter, the dedicated rescue volunteers swiftly responded to assess the situation. It was evident that this precious dog had recently given birth, but her condition was dire, and immediate rescue was imperative to save her from the grips of starvation.
Upon arrival, the sight that met their eyes was heart-wrenching. Olivia, as they would come to call her, was incredibly weak and emaciated, unable to walk or fend for herself. The trauma she had endured had left her trembling with fear, even hours after her rescue. Sadly, the initial tests revealed that Olivia tested positive for heartworm and had low platelet and red-blood cell counts.
To ensure the safety of Olivia and others, she had to undergo a 14-day isolation period to confirm her freedom from rabies. During this time, the dedicated team at the shelter provided her with the care and support she so desperately needed. Every prayer and well-wish was offered for Olivia’s swift recovery.
