In late November, Nina, a cruelty confiscation from North Memphis, arrived at Wright Way Rescue with a 13lb tumor hanging from her abdomen, along with two smaller tumors on her left mammary chain.
Nina was underweight, suffering from a high temperature, and had a severe skin infection on her haunches and tail. The team at Wright Way Rescue knew that time was of the essence, as each passing day increased the risk of the tumor rupturing.
Despite the urgency, it was crucial to provide Nina with the necessary veterinary care, including consultations with specialists and thorough testing, to prepare her for surgery. They also needed to improve her overall health and weight so that she could withstand the anesthesia.
These efforts were essential to enhance her chances of surviving a surgery that carried a significant risk of major blood loss and a higher-than-usual fatality rate. And their efforts paid off.
On December 8th, Nina underwent the major surgery and emerged with flying colors.
Once she had healed sufficiently from the surgery, Nina was placed with one of Wright-Way’s exceptional medical foster families, where she thrived.
The post-surgical biopsy results revealed that the smaller tumors were benign, while the larger one was identified as a soft tissue sarcoma, as expected.
All signs indicate that Nina is on a path to a healthy recovery, and she will soon be ready to find her forever home. Finally, Nina has found a caring family that looks after her and adores her.
