Resilient Dog Finds Hope and Healing After Enduring Cruelty and Neglect

The sight was heartbreaking. This poor dog had suffered a horrific act of cruelty—someone had intentionally severed his lower right leg.

The dedicated rescuers from Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary tirelessly searched for him, but he remained elusive. When they finally found him, he seemed to have lost all hope, as if waiting for the embrace of death.

According to the reporter, some heartless individuals had pelted him with stones when he approached, desperately seeking food. The pain and suffering he endured were unimaginable. His only goal was survival.

They rushed him to the vet to assess the extent of his injuries. His body was riddled with wounds from the merciless barrage of stones. Unfortunately, his leg was beyond saving, but he was too weak to undergo surgery.

After ten days, they sent a blood sample from the dog, later named Matty, for analysis. The results revealed alarmingly low red blood cell and hemoglobin levels, attributable to the severe blood loss and infection he had endured.

Dr. Riv explained, “His survival is still uncertain. We must weigh the risks of surgery against the dangers of infection from the necrotic leg tissue. We are doing everything in our power to restore his blood levels to normal and address any arising infections.”

On day 22, Matty exhibited growing strength and confidence. While his blood counts had improved, they had not reached the desired levels. Unfortunately, his leg was deteriorating further each day, necessitating the difficult decision to amputate.

Nearly three months later, Matty found his forever home with a loving family. He flourished alongside his new companion, Blake, proving that he harbored an abundance of love despite the cruel treatment he endured at the hands of humans before being rescued.
